Boohbah

Hello everyone! Welcome to this week’s post. Today’s childhood show is probably one of the weirdest shows I have gone through in this blog overall… Any guesses??

Drum roll please! *dududu* Boohbah!

Yes, it’s the show that makes you feel (as an adult) like you are tripping on acid! Don’t believe me? Take a look in this video here:

Now you understand? Exactly! Look at these fucking shits!

Well, enough about that! Here is a quick synopsis about it: according to IMDb, “Boohbah is a T.V. show for toddlers, preschoolers, and young elementary school students. It follows 5 colorful characters with their own secret language as they teach children basic motor skills and common things like counting and identifying colors.”

Sounds cool right? Well for children it is! No talking, bright colors, fun music, and ‘cute’ characters! However, if you aren’t a child, looks like a trip gone wrong. Get off them drugs kids! Or just watch this show.

According to my parents, I fucking loved this show! I had a bouncy chair that attached to the door frame and that I could, in a sense, bungee jump in. I sat in that chair and bounced around like crazy while enjoying these five oompa-loompa looking things having a time and a half.

I watched this show (again, all according to my parents) from like two and a half till four or so. This show is “appropriate” for kids ages from three to six which is another question I have. Kids at six already speak sentences and know how to run, play, count, and identify colors. Not that it’s that big of a deal, but with this show (no talking), I’d expect the rating to be from like two to four.

To me, there isn’t really anything wrong about this show to children (although it may make kids actually bounce off of all the walls more than they already do). However, through adult eyes, this can give a bad impression because of their exposure to the world.

Here is the biggest concern I have of this show: will kids actually do anything while watching? I know I did, but what do other parents have to say about their kids? After looking into the show’s reviews by actual parents, a lot of complaints parents had were that their child would just sit there with still bodies and glazed eyes, being memorized by the bright variety of colors the show has to offer. This of course differs between children so luckily I was the child who actually became active while watching this show.

With the 19 parents that reviewed it, the average rating was three out of five with the average age recommendation being five and up. Even worse, the site offers kids to review it! 47 kids commented and left the show with a two star rating and an average age recommendation being ten and older.

Who would’ve thought this show was a good idea to air on PBS (tv channel for babies and young kids). They should really premiere it to parents and their kids first before putting it on the big screen for thousands upon millions to see.

Anyway, thanks for tuning in this week! Here is this week’s little bop:

See you next week! Ciao!
